Stupidity and Ignorance
These first two I realized from a smart man, as well as a very talented author. I realized these by reading his series, The Sword of Truth. His name is Terry Goodkind. The third I knew all along, but reading the books made me realize it even more.
--- Why do you think people tend to believe in the most foolish notions? Sometimes they believe it because they are scared of what it would mean if it was actually true. Other times they might even believe because they want to. They believe that they will win the lottery, because if they win it they will become rich, and so they believe because they want to. Passion and feelings tend to take control of our reason.
--- Life is in the future, not in the past. The past is dead, and anything that happened before cannot be changed. Stop crying and moping around over mistakes made in the past, wishing you could go back and fix it. Well, the truth is, you can't. The only thing you can do is embrace the fact that you made a mistake and be prepared to prevent the same mistake from happening again as you venture forth into the future.
--- Wishing for things is pointless. I wished upon a star once because I wanted to get this really cool game that was very expensive. My wish never came true. In the end more harm came to me since my hopes of getting it were squashed. Wishing for things won't get you anywhere, won't get you it. You will have to get it yourself, you will have to earn it. If you want to get a game, you should save up some money and get it yourself. |

More Thoughts and Beliefs
--- This is a very controversial topic. Is being selfish wrong, bad? Its true being selfless is a good thing, but thinking you must be could be the wrong way to look at it. Just be selfless because you want, not cause you are told to. Let me give you an example. I've read in some philoshpies that you should be absolutely selfless, giving people what they want when they ask you for something. So if you give people everything they want, because it says so, and are only doing it to benefit yourself in the end, you were never acting selflessly. It was always selfishness, simply because you were doing it to benefit yourself in the end. The only way to be perfectly selfess is to give people what they want because you absolutely want to do it just to make them happy, not caring what it does for you. This is a tricky thing to do. Also, if you were absolutely selfless you wouldn't be anywhere today. You would be dead from starvation, because you had to give all your food to somebody else. Being selfish is not always bed, in fact its neccessary.
